Rideau Canal Flotilla is between 2:00pm and 3:30pm on Sunday, August 5, 2012
The Rideau Canal Flotilla and Parade of Lights are back, BIGGER and BETTER than ever! This year the Rideau Canal celebrates its 180th Birthday and we are featuring two exciting events; Parade of Lights - August 4th & the Rideau Canal Flotilla – August 5th, 2012. These are parades of decorated boats that cruise around Dows Lake and will be a highlight of the birthday celebration that you don’t want to miss!
This will be the biggest floating party the Capital has ever seen! You can expect to see many unique and eye-catching boats spectacularly transformed with lights, flowers, props, music and dancing, all decorated to the theme of '180th birthday party celebration'.
Thousands of people will line the banks to watch the boats entertain spectators, judges and participants alike as they cruise around the Rideau Canal at Dows Lake. The Flotilla is an integral part of community spirit in the National Capital Region and we are dedicated to the continuation of this Ottawa tradition.
All boats are warmly welcomed and encouraged to participate in the weekend activities. Cruisers, houseboats, antique and classic vessels, as well as the manual "Armstrong" kayaks, dragon boats and even rowboats are eligible to enter. Dockage at Dows Lake Marina is free during this weekend and the boat ramp is available for launches.
Spots are filling up fast! To register your boat for both events CLICK HERE.
